Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Sulfur and Oxygen content determination
CHNS/O combustion analysis is based on complete and instantaneous oxidation of the sample by "flash combustion" converting all organic and inorganic substances into combustion products. The resulting combustion gases (H2O, CO2, N2) are then used to give concentration information for the individual components in the mixture. This elemental analysis method is useful in determining the elemental composition, the purity, and the empirical formula of unknown compounds since it typically determines the weight percentage of C, H, N and O in a compound. This analytical method finds great application in chemical characterization in natural products, materials science, organic and inorganic synthesis, and pharmaceutical products, etc. This method requires a sample size of approximately 2 mg.
