Neutron Activation Analysis
NAA is capable of providing both quantitative and qualitative results for individual elements, as well as multi-element analysis, with sensitivities that can be superior to any other technique. NAA uses a source that emits neutrons with an average energy of 2.35 Mev, these are degraded into thermal neutrons in the measuring unit. The thermal neutrons radiate the sample which allows for thermal neutron capture reactions to be made in the nuclei of the various elements in the sample. The sample will then emit characteristic gamma rays which can be used to identify its content.
