EPA Polymer Exemption

The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) regulates the use of chemicals within the United States. It prohibits the manufacture or importation of chemicals that are not approved by the TSCA, or are not subject to one of many exemptions.

The polymer exemption was designed to encourage the manufacture of safer polymers, and to allow the industry to focus on more high risk substances, with polymeric substances being deemed relatively large, inert and stable.

Jordi Labs has worked with manufacturers and importers to characterize their polymeric materials in terms of monomer chemistry (pyrolysis GCMS) and molecular weight (GPC). We also have extensive experience determining weight percentages below molecular weight cut-offs of interest (in reference to 40 CFR § 723.250(b)) and can provide reports in support of polymer exemptions ready for submission to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
