REACH Testing (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

REACH is a regulation developed by the European Union (EU) to protect the health of humans and the environment from the harmful effects of chemicals. REACH Testing stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals.

The regulation requires registration of substances imported or produced in the EU. Registration requires chemical characterization, to include identification and quantitation of the substance.  This will allow for a complete risk assessment of the substance to be registered. Accurate chemical identification of the main components and impurities often includes Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, to include gas and liquid chromatography (GCMS and LCMS).

Once chemicals are identified, they are quantitated through analytical techniques, such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and flame ionization detection (FID).  Inorganic substances are typically characterized by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).  For polymer exemptions, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is typically performed.

Jordi Labs has the expertise required to properly leverage information from multiple techniques, databases and many years of experience to allow for positive identification of each substance and impurity.  We have the latest instrumentation, which allows for analysis of a wide range of substances. We are experts at analytical method development and we use this knowledge to develop quantitative methods for the components identified.
